English: Photograph of biochemist William Rutter (right), co-founder of Chiron Corporation and former director of the Hormone Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), receiving the 2003 Biotechnology Heritage Award from Arnold Thackray (left), head of the Chemical Heritage Foundation. The Biotechnology Heritage Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of biotechnology through discovery, innovation, and public understanding, and is awarded by the Chemical Heritage Foundation and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). It was presented at a plenary breakfast at the four-day BIO 2003 Annual Convention, June 22-25, 2003, at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center.
