English: Spc. Derral Whatley, water treatment specialist, 431st Quartermaster Detachment, Kinson, N.C washes a 600 gallon per minute pump used during water removal operations in various locations throughout New York City Nov. 15 at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The unit re-deployed to JBMDL today after removing thousands of gallons of water from areas most effected as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The 401st, 410th and 431st Quartermaster Detachment deployed to areas most effected by the storm under the National Defense Authorization Act 2012 and were in direct support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, state and local officials. Now that most of the water is removed, necessary work can begin to restore utilities to the supported areas. |
