Title
English: Armored cruiser "Seattle" at anchor in Elliott Bay, ca. 1924
Description
English:

Workers at the naval shipyard at Camden, New Jersey, laid the keel for the armored cruiser "Washington" in 1903. Renamed the "Seattle" in 1916, the vessel served as the flagship of the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet. The "Seattle" escorted nine American convoys to France during World War I and carried troops back to the United States after the war ended. From 1919 to 1927, the vessel served in the Pacific Fleet, sometimes as the flagship. This 1920s photo shows the armored cruiser "Seattle" in Elliott Bay with the Seattle skyline in the background. The ship returned to the East Coast in 1927 and was scrapped in 1946.
