When there is buta slight difference of elevation, the vertical scale is sometimes used twicethat of the horizontal. In the illustrations each contour represents adifference of one foot in elevation, using a scale of i/s of an inch equals1 foot, and the horizontal scale is the same. Each contour is then tracedon cardboard by means of a carbon paper. They should be traced ingroups of twos, so that the tracing of each successive contour will actas a guide for its placement when they are assembled. The contoursthat are to mark the elevations of the model are then cut out and placedone on top of the other, using the second contour line traced as a guidefor the placement of the successive contours.
