English: A depiction of a statue of an animal or monster discovered in 1714 in the Southbroom Hoard near Devizes, Wiltshire, from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of "Wilt Shire" (Wiltshire), the seventh in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales... Moll copied the figure's appearance and lack of identification from Musgrave's 1719 account of the hoard.

This statue is now lost, while others from the hoard are held by the British Museum. Musgrave identified it as Figure 16 (M16) while Durham categorized it as #380. Musgrave, Moll, and Boon identified it as the Egyptian jackel god Anubis, but modern scholars have found that it is a Gallo-Roman figure instead, depicted as a great maned or furred canine that sometimes has human legs and feet protruding from his mouth and sometimes a long and wavy tongue. The Southbroom figure seems especially similar to the dog monster discovered with a hoard near a spring at Llys Awel in Wales.

Notes: These Houshold Gods in number 19 with a Medal of Alexander Severus were found at the Devizes An. 1714 and are supposed to have been bury'd there in 234. the Rest for want of Room are placed in Dorset and Hampshires yat are barren of Antiquities; we being unwilling to omit such great Curiosities.
