Includes selected year-round research stations for New Zealand, United States, Soviet Union, France, Australia, Japan, South Africa, Federal Republic of Germany, Argentina, and Norway. Includes the South Pole, Drake Passage, Peter I Island, Alexander island, Berkrier Island, Deception Island, Elephant Island, South Orkney Islands, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas; administered by United Kingdom, claimed by Argentina), South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (administered by United Kingdom, claimed by Argentina), Bouvet Island (Norway), Prince Edward Islands (South Africa), French Southern and Antarctic Lands (France), Heard Island and McDonald Islands (Australia), Balleny Islands, Scott Island, Ross Island, New Zealand (North Island, South Island, and Chatham Islands), and Australia (Tasmania and Macquarie Island). Also includes Argentina, Chile, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, and Mozambique.Note: 11 of the 18 Antarctic Treaty consultative nations have made no claims to Antarctic territory (although the Soviet Union and the United States have reserved the right to do so) and do not recognize the claims of the other nations.
