The Directors of the Amster-dam Chamber, therefore, reconsidered their former decision, re-newed their negotiations with Hudson, and on December 21), 1608,commissioned Direk van Os, Jan Poppe, and Arent ten Groten-huys to draft a contract for his engagement. This connuitteowas also directed to prepare the necessary letters to the otherChambers of the East India Company. At the same time theAmsterdam Chamber appointed Marcus de Vogelaer and JanHermanz, in conjunction with Dirck Gerritz, the chief boatswainof the Chamber, to look out for a suitable vessel of from twenty-five to thirty-five lasts (fifty to seventy tons) for Hudson. Van Os, Poppe, and Grotenhuys performed their work withexpedition and on January 8, 1G09, the following contract wassigned:
