Fire Department. 13 Fire Department Band. In May, 1930, a call was issued to the departmentfor members of the department who were interested in aband to meet at the quarters of Engine Company 26.The response to this invitation was beyond all expecta-tions. Approximately one hundred and fifty menattended the meeting and plans to organize the bandstarted. On September 17, 1930, the band made itsfirst public appearance on the streets of Boston in theTercentenary Parade, and for its accomplishment andappearance won the admiration of the hundreds ofthousands of people who watched the parade. Theorganization, instruction and equipping of this bandrequired no expenditure of the citys money and hasplaced no financial burden on the City of Boston. Theexpenses of the band were met privately by the FireCommissioner, assisted by those men who undertookthe purchase of their own instruments. The establishment of a band in the Fire Departmenthas done much to increase the interest and efficiencyof th
