Only enough time is given to spherical trigo-nometry to enable the student to solve the spherical triangle.Much time is devoted to practical triangulation and measure-ments. The department is supplied with all the necessaryinstruments which the students use under the direction ofthe instructor. Five hours a week. Course VII—Plane Analytical Geometry.—Junior year ;first term. This work is required of all students taking themechanical and electrical engineering courses. The workembraces the subjects treated in Ashtons Analytic Geom-etry. Five hours a week. Course VIII—Differential Calculus.—^Junior year; secondterm. Course IX—hitegral Calaihis.—Junior year; third term.Among the topics considered are direct integration, definiteintegrals and applications, integration of rational fractions,integration by rationalization, integration by parts, integra-tion of trigonometric forms, etc.; applications to finding thelengths and areas of curves, surfaces and volumes of solidsof revolution, etc.; double and triple integration and applica-tions. In this course, as in course VIII, great stress is laidupon practical applications, and a large number of practicalproblems are solved. Five hours a week.
