Nederlands: Ter gelegenheid van de vierhonderdste verjaardag van de geboortedag van Adam Ries besliste de Annaberger Geschichtsverein in 1891 een monument ter ere van hem op te richten. Het beeld van de Dresdener beeldhouwer Eduard Robert Henze werd op 5 november 1893 onthuld. In 1943 werd het verwijderd om om te smelten voor oorlogsmateriaal. Het werd een tiental jaar later vervangen door een zandstenen kopie. Deze staat nu voor het Adam Ries Haus. English: On the occasion of the 400th birthday of Adam Ries, the Annaberg Historical Society decided in 1891 to put up a monument to the mathematician. The sculpture by the Dresden sculptor, Eduard Robert Henze, was not dedicated until 5 November 1893 because of financial difficulties. In 1943, the bronze bust was melted to make armaments and it was replaced ten years later by a sandstone copy. It now stands before the Adam Ries Haus. Deutsch: Anlässlich des 400. Geburtstages von Adam Ries beschloss der Annaberger Geschichtsverein 1891, dem Rechenmeister ein Denkmal zu setzen. Die vom Dresdner Bildhauer Eduard Robert Henze angefertigte Skulptur konnte wegen finanzieller Schwierigkeiten erst am 5. November 1893 geweiht werden. 1943 wurde die Bronzebüste zu Rüstungszwecken eingeschmolzen und erst zehn Jahre später durch eine Sandsteinkopie ersetzt. Seit dem Jahr 2010 hat das Denkmal seinen Platz vor dem Adam-Ries-Museum und Sitz des Adam-Ries-Bundes in der Annaberger Johannisgasse gefunden. |
