Summary[edit]
DescriptionAni Tigran Honents church 36 Interior raising of Lazarus fresco 3686.jpg |
English: I was informed this is one of Christ's miracles, the raising of Lazarus.
For those not in the know, from the Wikipedia: In the Gospel of John Lazarus, also called Lazarus of Bethany or Lazarus of the Four Days was a man who lived in the town of Bethany. The sisters are immediately identified: "Mary was the one who had anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and dried his feet with her hair; it was her brother Lazarus who was ill." So the sisters sent word to Jesus that the one he loved was ill. Jesus tarried where he was, and when he arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days, and Martha reproached him. When Jesus assured her that Lazarus would rise, she took his meaning for the resurrection on Judgment Day, to which he replied, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die". In the presence of a crowd of Jewish mourners, Jesus had the stone rolled away from the tomb and bade Lazarus to come out, and so he did, still wrapped in his grave-cloths. The fresco is in the second bay to the north, see picture 5570. |

These are frescoes from inside the church, there are some outside, not in this category. The church has many frescoes with scenes from the life of St. Gregory as well as from the life of Jezus, and other more "general" scenes. Many have been ruined by the vandals who decided this was a good spot to let the world they exist, are in love, love a football club and so forth. Shame on them.
