Summary[edit]
DescriptionAndromeda in Jaffa.jpg |
English: Jaffa. The entrance of the community "Andromeda". Jaffa used to be the main Palestinian port. According to the 1947 UN partition plan (proposing the creation of an Israeli and a Palestinian state in the Palestinian territory) Jaffa should have been a Palestinian enclave within Israel, but in the 1948-1949 conflict Israel conquered and annected the city. Although most Palestinians fled, most of the population was still Arab after the war, so the city was annected to Tel Aviv municipality, in order not to leave Jaffa in Arab administration. Since then, a process of depalestinisation has been carried out. Many Palestinian houses have been knocked down and many inhabitants have been forced to leave, while Jaffa has turned to be a residential quarter for upper class Israelis from Tel Aviv. "Andromeda" is the symbol of the current process of colonization, based not only on class but also on ethnic status.
Giaffa. |
