Concept screenshot of Android OS with more advanced MTP settings

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This concept screenshot shows settings that could make the use of MTP (media transfer protocol) more convenient:
  • Reset connection with one tap if unresponsive
  • Toggle write access, to avoid modifying anything when not desired.
  • Option to list files starting with a dot (".") character. Such files are considered hidden on Unix- and Linux-Based operating systems.

Moving out folders from an MTP device without all contents being listed leads to the loss of those not being listed, since they are deleted without having been transferred. Even with this option activated, folders should not be moved out of MTP devices, only copied and verified by size or file count and then deleted, since the media transfer protocol might fail to list more recently added files according to user reports.[1][2][3]

  • Preserve date and time stamp if supported by MTP client
  • Share only a selected directory instead of the entire user storage, which can be of use in insecure environments. The user should be able to change the directory without the option having to be enabled so a directory can be set both before and after enabling this option.
