Tisnt so at all! cried Tom, indignantly. My mama wasnta Sleepyhead, and my name isnt Dozy Pate. Hes such a Sleepyhead he doesnt know his own name, saidthe Lefthandiron. I M NOT A DORMOUSE. Tom and the Andirons 13 always deny that they are what they are. Why I really believe if I told Tom here that he was a Dormouse hed deny it and say he was a boy. I am a boy, said Tom, stoutly, and Im not a Dormouse.Both of the Andirons laughed heartily at this, and the Right- handiron, dancing a little jig, sang over and over again this couplet: He cant be very smart, I wis,If he cant see thats what he is. Get him a mirror, said the Lefthandiron. We cant blamehim for thinking he is a boy, because everybody has told him he is aboy except ourselves, and being a Sleepyhead he believes as a rulewhat he is told if it is pleasant to believe. Well, I cant see why he objects to being a Dormouse, saidthe Righthandiron. I think Dormice are very handsome and justtoo sweet and amiable to live. They are much pleasanter mice thanWindowmice and Stairmice—dont you think so? Indeed I do, returned the Lefthandiron, and Tom is aboutthe finest Dormouse I ever saw, and I wish hed let
