| Description |
English: And Through The Whins And By The Cairn... This modern cairn, located in Alloway's Cairn Crescent, was re-erected on the original site to perpetuate the eventful journey of Tam O' Shanter to Alloway Kirk. (Source: Information plaque on the cairn). When the prehistoric cairn was removed during the housing development of the early 1960s, a Bronze Age burial cist was found. (Source: "Ayr Stories", by Dane Love). Burns's famous poem tells that Tam came "Through the whins, and by the cairn, whare hunters fand the murder'd bairn." Creepy stuff! |
