Summary[edit]

Description
English: Map of the taxi routes of the aircraft involved in the 1983 Anchorage runway collision. SouthCentral 59 followed the correct route (marked in green), taxiing down the east-west taxiway and then turning onto runway 6L/24R via taxiway W3 in preparation for a runway 6L takeoff. KAL 084's proper taxi route would have been to follow the east-west taxiway to runway 14/32 and then turn right in preparation for a runway 32 takeoff; instead, that flight (taxi route marked in red) taxied across the east-west taxiway onto taxiway W1, followed that taxiway to runway 6L/24R, and attempted to take off (takeoff roll marked in blue) on runway 24R (the flightcrew erroneously believing themselves to be at the threshold of runway 32) from a starting point three-quarters of the way down the runway, causing it to collide with SouthCentral 59 at the location marked by the brown X before crashing off the end of the runway without ever reaching flying speed.
