| Description |
Anapji is a royal garden of the Silla kingdom (57 BC - 935 AD) that was forgotten over the following centuries, until 1970s excavations. Based on the findings, out of the 26 original buildings, three were restored, but given that documentation was sketchy, the restorations are educated guesses at best. Anapji bordered a royal palace that no longer exists today. This is a lovely place. One can only imagine how awesome the complete garden would have been in its heyday. Many of the unearthed artifacts were sent next door to the Gyeongju Branch of National Museum of Korea, where they are now on display; that will be part of my agenda the next day. |
