This illustration depicts an unlikely encounter between the dwarf whales that lived in megalake Paratethys and large preistoric elephants roamed the lands around the megalake.

| Description |
English: Riabinini (Cetotherium riabinini), the smallest-known baleen whale species, lived in the megalake. Unlike its counterparts among the cetaceans, this unique creature had evolved an exceptional feeding strategy. In a striking departure from the typical dietary habits of whales, it appears that Riabinini is primarily fed by siphoning the lake's nutrient-rich mud.
Deinotherium (Deinotherium giganteum), an ancient elephant dwarfing its modern counterparts, flourished in the megalake's surrounding swamps and lowlands. Its distinctive downward-curving tusks were likely designed for excavating food. While Deinotherium possessed swimming abilities, it seldom ventured into extensive water bodies, making any encounter with the miniature whales a rare and purely coincidental event.
Português: A menor espécie de baleia de barbatanas conhecida, é Riabinini (Cetotherium riabinini), que vivia no mega-lago. Ao contrário dos seus homólogos entre os cetáceos, esta criatura única desenvolveu uma estratégia alimentar excepcional. Contrariando os hábitos alimentares típicos das baleias, parece que a Riabinini se alimentava principalmente das lamas ricas em nutrientes do lago.
Deinotherium (Deinotherium giganteum), uma espécie de elefante antigo muito maior do que os elefantes modernos, evoluiu nos pântanos e planícies em torno do mega-lago.
