Photograph of an old Walapai Indian woman carrying a water jug on her back, Kingman, Arizona, ca.1901. She walks to the right, in front of two blankets (with horizontal stripes) hung behind her on a wall, toward another striped blanket on the ground. She is wearing a long checkered dress under a striped blanket or shawl pulled about her shoulders. She has shoes on. The crook of a cane is grasped in her right hand to aid her walking. Her dark windblown hair reaches her shoulders. The pottery water jug hangs on her back from a cord around her neck.
