Title
An complete copper alloy annular brooch dating to the Medieval period (AD 1300-1400)
Description
English: An complete copper alloy annular brooch dating to the Medieval period (AD 1300-1400). The brooch consists of an ornate circular frame with four evenly spaced raised collets. The frame has a flat back and front with bevelled inner and outer sides. Between each collet the frame projects to four semi-circular lobes, creating a frilled edge effect to the frame. The collets project from a triangular base and are broadly circular in section. The outer side has a flattened filed appearance and there are little circular drilled depressions on the inner side. A circular cell is present on the upper face of each collet and although no stone or glass remains within the setting, traces of a solder or paste can be determined in all of them. Within one semi-circular projection of the frame is a circular hole, through which a of a copper alloy thin pin. The pin is formed of a circular cross-section shaped wire, bent around the frame and extending away from the frame.
