Description
English: Panam Nagar, also known as Panam City or Panam Cityscape, is a historic site located in Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj District, Bangladesh. It is renowned for its collection of ancient structures and is considered a significant architectural heritage of the region.

Panam Nagar was once a thriving trading center during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Sonargaon was an important commercial hub in the Bengal region. The cityscape of Panam Nagar consists of a series of meticulously designed buildings, most of which were residential houses of wealthy Hindu merchants.

The architecture of Panam Nagar exhibits a unique blend of indigenous Bengal and European styles. The houses are characterized by ornate facades, intricate woodwork, decorative motifs, and spacious courtyards. The buildings feature elements of the Bengali zamindari style, with large verandas, spacious rooms, and prominent entrances.

One of the notable structures in Panam Nagar is the Goaldi Mosque, a historic mosque dating back to the 15th century. The mosque showcases exquisite terracotta ornamentation and is an excellent example of early Islamic architecture in the region.

Over time, many of the buildings in Panam Nagar fell into disrepair and faced the threat of destruction. However, efforts have been made to preserve and restore the site. The Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh declared Panam Nagar a protected archaeological site in 1982, recognizing its historical and cultural significance.

Today, Panam Nagar attracts tourists, historians, and architecture enthusiasts who visit to appreciate the unique charm of this ancient cityscape. It serves as a living testament to the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh and stands as a reminder of its vibrant past.
