Cartridges andfishing-tackle came next, mixed in with old clothes,hats, &c. The blankets, with coffee-bags in the mid-dle, were on top, with rubber blankets spread overthem. Ha, ha ! What a mixture ! We are going to-morrow by way of Lewiston, so asnot to get to the Canadian custom-house until we reachToronto instead of at the Bridge. We have a letter fromthe Collector of Customs here, and he told us that themen at Toronto were less strict. What a sad businessit would be if they should insist on our emptying the turkey ! CHAPTEE XIX. AGAIN IN A CANADIAN CAMP. July 24. MY dear Mamma, — Our packing is all done,tickets bought to Toronto, and everythingready to start at nine oclock to-morrow morning.But I waited too long before telling Papa how muchmoney I wanted, and so his letter has not come yet.If it comes we can start to-morrow, if it is in the firstdelivery; otherwise we shall probably wait until Tues-day, although Mr. E has offered to lend me the money. That package came all right, and containedjust what I wanted. Thanks very much. The bigslouch hat and heavy socks are out of sight; flan-nel shirts a fine fit.
