Nederlands: Het schildhoofd met drie gouden bijen was onderdeel van het door Napoleon ingevoerde nieuwe keizerlijke heraldisch systeem. De versiering was, samen met de uitwendige ornamenten als een muurkroon met adelaar en festoenen van eikenblad en olijvenbladeren voorbehouden aan de “bonnes villes de l’Empire”, steden van de eerste orde. Napoleon benoemde Amsterdam tot de derde stad van het Franse keizerrijk, na Parijs en Rome. Tekening. Techniek: potlood, penseel in kleur, gehoogd met goud.
English: The shield head with three golden bees was part of the new imperial heraldic system introduced by Napoleon. The decoration, together with the external ornaments such as a mural crown with an eagle and festoons of oak leaves and olive leaves, was reserved for the "bonnes villes de l'Empire", cities of the first order. Napoleon made Amsterdam the third city of the French Empire, after Paris and Rome. Drawing. Technique: pencil, brush in color, heightened with gold. |
