English: Title: American nurses pioneering in Montenegro. Miss Myrtle Dean of Atlantic, Iowa, one of the first American Red Cross nurses to land in France after war was declared (on the left) and Miss Minnie Parrishof Dalphos, New Mexico, also a Red Cross nurse on the principal street of Podgoritza, Montenegro. America women who undertook the care of the sick and dying in this distiture [sic] and war ravaged country found not only a pitiful lack of hospitals and equipment but the need for training some of the native women to take up the nursing profession and be able to 'carry' on after Red Cross operations there are discontinued. To this end several nursing classes are regularly conduct under the dire action of expert American nurses
