Figure 6. Average activity of six white rats for fifty-three days. Barometer in dottedline. Figure 7 shows, in solid and broken line, the curves of activity oftwo dogs, from data obtained by Hodge ° by means of a pair ofingeniously contrived pedometer watches carried by the dogs intheir collars. The curves are plotted from the readings of thesewatches taken once a day. To the chart I have added in dottedline the curve of barometric pressure for the forty-six days of theexperiment, with the result of establishing a somewhat striking cor-respondence. The curve would be improved in legibility if therecords for the two dogs were averaged instead of being plotted /50.29 5 ,n B^non. 50^s

Ba-rometric variations shown in dotted line for the forty-six days of the experiment. separately, as they are in the figure; but it would not show, as itdoes now, the remarkable similarity between the two. Other meas-urable factors are undoubtedly at work in producing variations, —factors which can be determined only by manifold repetition of suchexperiments. Variations in Daily Activity. 49 The foregoing charted results show an inverse relation betweenthe amount of voluntary daily activity of gray rats and atmosphericpressure, and a direct relation between variations in barometricpressure and the activity of the two dogs. The white rats experi-mented upon showed only a doubtful direct relation between theamount of their daily activity and pressure. The experiments seemto point to the possibility of a fundamental difference in this respectbetween domesticated animals, independent of weather ch
