, while the butlers closet abutsagainst the entrance wall, as does the kitchen, whch is nextto it. On the entrance front is the servants hall and a coldroom. with silk tapestry, and the plastered ceiling is finished witha handsome geometrical design. The mantel is paneled andcarved with festoons. The large window on the stairs isfilled with stained glass. On the further side is the porch,enclosed on three sides with white walls covered with latticework in pale green. Adjoining it is the sun-room, furnishedin the Japanese style, and with an adjoining alcove, in whichstands a graceful little marble fountain. The library is two steps below the level of the hall, andis a room of penetrating charm. Its arched ceiling has ageometric design of delicately modeled ribs. The fireplaceat the furthest end has a facing of Caen stone with a veryrichly carved over mantel finished in gold. Elaboratelycarved columns, also treated in gold, stand on either side. The Library Has an Arched Ceiling; the Fireplace Has a Gilded Over-Mantel with Carved Columns; the Furnishings and Drapery are Green and in the recesses immediately adjoining are paneled seatsbelow windows glazed with leaded glass. The walls arepaneled in wood throughout and the furnishings and drap-eries are of green brocade. French gray is the prevailing coloring of the dining-room.The fireplace has a marble facing encased within the woodframe; above is a built-in mirror, richly carved. On eitherside are china closets. The furniture is upholstered in coralbrocade, and the rug, tapestry, draperies and wall decora-tions are of similar tone. The ceiling, which is supported on a decorated cornice, is plain, save for two severe circles inthe center from which the chandelier depends. The terrace without the house is a lounging place of sin-gular beauty and interest.
