The ovum was either not attached, or only slightly at-tached to the mucosa, and may have been lost when the uteruswas first opened. The appearance presented was different to thatseen in the twelve-day specimen. There was a swelling of themucosa both on the anterior and posterior walls, but scarcely anyat the junction of these walls, so that a furrow was formed be-tween them. The surface of the raised area was smooth, showingonly the openings of the glands somewhat wider apart than in thenormal mucosa. It was of a deep red color. There was only afaint trace of the commencing division of these areas into smallerdivisions by means of furrows. Close to the os internum the loweredge of the raised plateau appeared as a slight ridge. Reichert unfortunately made no minute microscopic examina-tion of either of these specimens.
