I found the intestines andomentum glued by fresh adhesions to everything in the pelviccavity—bladder, uterus, appendages, and posterior pelvic wall,and bands of adhesions running across sections of the gut in sucha manner as to make it seem almost impossible for them to havebecome freed by any effort of nature. I brought several feet ofthe intestines out through the incision and freed them from adhe-sions, washed them thoroughly with boiled hot water, and re-turned them ; then I went into the pelvis, broke up the adhesionsabout the right appendage and brought it into view ; it was aboutas large as a mans thumb and filled with pus. The agglutinatedfimbriated extremity was easily opened, and the pus allowed toescape.
