Starting with a personnel of three this infant society de-veloped a membership of many thousands. Gradually itincreased the number of its kitchens which were soon pre-paring a full meal for the troops. In the meantime itlaunched its second enterprise, UAcceuil aux Re fugles,which fed the convoys of fugitives pouring into the city.Its most important service was the founding of a vestiairewhere clothes were provided for refugees and wounded whowere returning to civil life. It was one of the first of therelief associations to concern itself with the future of thereformes and its policy of giving work instead of alms to the mutilated soldier received the approbation of allFrance.
