MARTINHO COSTA, Fatima, 1977 Lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal

Graduated in Plastic Arts - Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 2002. In 2003 completed a Masters in Teoria y Prática de las Artes Plásticas Contemporâneas in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In September 2012 was an artist in residence at CeRCCa, Centre de Recerca i Creacio Casamarles, Barcelona. With the support of the Gulbenkian Foundation.

His work mainly in painting, video-animation, and recently in interventions in the public space, try to reflect on how the images that surround us are incorporated in those artistic media. This transformation process on objects of the present, occurs on an investigation of the history of painting. Trying to update the major themes and genres in the tradition of painting.

Participates in several group exhibitions since 2000, most notably: Respublica, 1910 and 2010 face to face, at the Calouste Gulbenkian in 2010; Entre as Margens – Representações da Engenharia na Arte Portuguesa, in the Museu Soares dos Reis, Oporto in 2013 O Fim do Mundo, Abbaye de Neumunster, Luxemburgo; Narrações Fragmentadas, Galeria Liebre in Madrid, 2012; painting prize Fidelidade, Culturgest, 2006, and O Espelho deUlisses (2005), Centro de Arte São João da Madeira.

Of the solo exhibitions he does since 2003 include: 48 Portraits, ArteContempo, Lisboa; O Diário de Robert Stern (2011), Galeria 111, Lisboa; Ruína, (2008) Galeria 111, Lisboa;
