Description
English: Allegory of Painting: Ana de Lorena, Duchess of Abrantes (1691-1761), depicted as Athena protecting Painting. 1752 engraving by Manuel José Gonçalves (after a drawing by André Gonçalves) featured on the frontispiece of the book Carta apologetica e analytica, que pela ingenuidade da pintura, em quanto sciencia, escreveo com profundissimo respeito à Illustrissima e Excellentissima Senhora D. Anna de Lorena... ("Apologetic and analytical letter that, due to the ingenuity of Painting as a Science, [the author] wrote with the utmost respect to the Most Illustrious and Most Excellent Lady Anna de Lorena..."), by José Gomes da Cruz.
