Hyderabad was the capital of the Nizams of Hyderabad, who ruled over one of the largest states in India from 1724 until 1948. The dynasty was founded in the early 18th century by Nizam al-Mulk, entitled Asaf Jah (d.1748). The Afzal Mahal is a two storeyed building with a classical facade of Corinthian columns. It is one of four palaces in the Chaumhalla Palace complex, commenced in 1750.
