Baffin Bay

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Arctic Sea Sheet I Baffin Bay. Important early charting of the Arctic Regions, illustrating the most up to date discoveries in the Arctic Regions, at the time of the discovery of the Northwest Passage. The two charts (2177 and 2443) are filled with details identifying the discoveries of a number of English discoverers in the 1830s, 1840s and 1850s, which was clearly being compiled from information being brought back in the 1850s by the English explorers searching for Sir. John Franklin. The charts are very rare, with no prior appearances of this edition of the charts in the past 30 years. This pair was recently de-accessioned by the State Library of Connecticut.
