Description
Nederlands: Adjudant-onderofficier b.d. Cornelis Willem Ottevanger is op 3 november op 101-jarige leeftijd overleden. Hij behoorde tot de laatste generatie van oud-militairen van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger (KNIL). Ottevanger was de oudste bewoner van het Koninklijk Tehuis voor Oud Militairen en Museum Bronbeek. Hij werd op 13 augustus 1915 geboren in Tjimahi op Java als zoon van een naar Indië vertrokken Nederlandse boer, die had getekend voor het koloniale leger. Zelf tekende Ottevanger in 1934 voor het KNIL. Tijdens de Japanse bezetting van Nederlands-Indië 1942-’45 was hij korte tijd krijgsgevangene op Celebes. Na de Japanse capitulatie meldde Ottevanger zich weer voor de dienst. Na zijn KNIL-periode vervolgde hij zijn militaire loopbaan bij de Koninklijk Landmacht tot zijn eervol ontslag in 1957.
