Deutsch: Die Mitteltafel zeigt die Auffindung und Verherrlichung des wahren Kreuzes durch Heilige, Propheten und Engel. Rechts unten sind die Patriarchen, einschließlich Moses, Abraham und König David abgebildet. Jonas sitzt auf dem Wal mit zum Kreuz erhobenem Blick, die hl. Catherine of Alexandria und Maria Magdalena sind in schwesterlicher Umarmung. Im Vordergrund ist ein Streit zwischen dem hl. Sebastian und den 4 Kirchenvätern, Papst Gregor. Die sechs umrahmenden Szenen erzählen die Legende von der Auffindung des Kreuzes, an dem Jesus gestorben sein soll, durch die heilige Helena und seiner Rückführung nach Jerusalem durch Kaiser Heraklius: Die Befragung des Juden, Einschiffung der Kaiserin Helena, Heraklius trägt das Kreuz nach Jerusalem hinein Die Auffindung des Kreuzes Christi durch Helena, Die Kreuzprobe, Heraklius wird der Einzug in Jerusalem zu Pferde verweigert. Der moderne Rahmen des Hausaltars wurde nach Skizzen von 1612 rekonstruiert.
English: In the central panel the Glorification of the cross by the Saints, the prophets and the angels is shown. On the right, are the 4 the patriarchs including Moses, Abraham and King David. Jonas is sitting on the fish, looking up towards the cross, and St Catherine and Mary Magdalene are in a sisterly embrace. In the foreground is a disputation between St Sebastian and the 4 Fathers of the Church, Pope Gregory, St Jerome, St Ambrose and St Augustine, with the first Christian martyrs St Stephen and St Laurence. The six surrounding scene depict the finding of the true cross by St. Helen. The modern frame has been reconstructed following sketches from 1612.

Inv.-Nr. 2024, 2054 erworben 1950 und 1955, 2118, 2119, 2140 erworben 1971 und 1978 durch den Städelschen Museums-Verein e.V.. 2131 erworben 1975 durch Spenden der Imprimatur Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mbH und einer Spendenaktion des Städelschen Museums-Vereins e.V.. Das letzte Bild (2142) wurde 1981 in Australien gefunden und am 4.10.1981 bei Christies erworben. Schenkung der Imprimatur Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mbH
