Die Schalen bleiben teils a) am Boden dort liegen, wo das Tier gelebt hat, teils b) werden sie an den Ufern angespiilt, teils. c) nnd das gilt besonders von dern meist am Fucus befestigten Mytilus, werden sie mit dieser Pflanze ins Meer hinausgetrie- ben, wo sie fruher oder spater zu Boden sinken. Was die Kategorie a) betrifft, so fallt unter alien in Frage kommenden Mollusken Tellina am meisten aut'. Wie schon Le- v an der (1. c. p. 13) erwahnt, ist der Boden „in den seichten Sunden und Buchten'- bisweilen .,fleckenweise wie gepflastert
