Rückseite: INDVSTRIAE SERICAE PRVSS // BR MDCCLXXXIII [Der preußischen Seidenindustrie Britz 1783]. Unter einem Maulbeerbaum sitzt eine Frau, die nach dem Vorbild der antiken Penelope Seidenfäden von den im beheizten Wasserkessel schwimmenden Kokons haspelt. Links drei Seidenstrehlen und im Korb weitere Kokons. Im Abschnitt einzeilige ... Kommentar: Bei den Seidenbaumedaillen handelt es sich eindeutig um Auszeichnungsmedaillen. Von dieser silbernen Prägung sind nach den Akten 70 Stück geprägt worden. Zur Förderung des Seidenbaus wurde eine 'Immediate-Landseidenbau-Commission' eingerichtet, die unter der Leitung des Staatsministers Ewald Friedrich Graf von Hertzberg ein Auszeichnungssystem erarbeitete. Bei dieser Auszeichnung handelt sich hier um die zweite und häufigste Form der so genannten 'Hertzbergmedaille', benannt nach dem Staatsminister, der auf seinem Gut in Britz selbst mit gutem Beispiel in der Seidenzucht voranging. 1783 zeichnete er erstmals 20 erfolgreiche Seidenzüchter mit der silbernen Medaille aus (der ersten Form, ausgegeben von Oktober 1784 bis Oktober 1786).
