Title
Parable of the publican and the Pharisee
Description
From a series entitled Biblia sacra. Book illustration with the parable of publican and Pharisee (Luke 18: 9-14). A publican and a Pharisee pray together in the temple. The Pharisee does not kneel out of humility and considers himself better than everyone else. He thanks God for this happiness. The publican knows that he is sinful and begs forgiveness while kneeling. Because of this humility, the publican is the most just. The print contains a caption with a reference to the accompanying Bible passage. Engraved by Abraham de Bruyn after design by Chrispijn van den Broeck.
