About a mile and a half below the town,where the Deep Run empties into the Rappa-hannock, General Franklin had been allowedwithout serious opposition to throw two pon-toon bridges, and his grand division passedover and massed on the level bottoms oppositeHamiltons Crossing, thus placing himself infront of Stonewall Jacksons corps. The nthand 12th were thus spent by the Federals incrossing the river and preparing for battle.
