Text Appearing Before Image:
Times havechanged, and there is nothing to be regrettedin the change that has come over CongoSquare. Still a glamour hangs over its darkpast. There is the pathos of slavery, the poetryof the weak oppressed by the strong, and oflimbs that danced after toil, and of barbariclove-making. The rags and semi-nakedness,the bamboula drum, the dance, and almost thebanjo, are-gone ; but the bizarre melodies anddark lovers apostrophes live on; and amongthem the old Counjaille songof Aurore Pradere. Cho. Cho. So I.e. AURORE PRADERE. II Aurore Pradere, pretty maid, ;; (ter)Shes just what I want and her Ill have. Some folks say shes too pretty, quite; Some folks they say shes not polite; All this they say — Psha-a-ah ! More fool am I !For shes what I want and her Ill have. II Aurore Pradere, pretty maid, ;; (ter-)Shes just what I want and her Ill have. Some say shes going to the bad; Some say that her mamma went mad;All this they say — Psha-a-ah! More fool am I !For shes what I want and her Ill have.
Text Appearing After Image:
THE CALABOOSE. THE DANCE IN PLACE CONGO. 529 Mr. Ware and his associate compilers have Solo.neither of these stanzas, but one very prettyone ; the third in the music as printed here, and which we translate as follows : Cho. This article and another on a kindred theme wereoriginally projected as the joint work of Mr. H. E.Krehbiel, musical editor of the New York Tribune, author of The History of Choral Music in New YorkCity, etc. ; and the present writer. But under themany prior claims of the journalists profession, Mr.Krehbiel withdrew from the work, though not untilhe had furnished a number of instrumental accompa-niments, as well as the Quill Song credited to him,and much valuable cooperation. As may in part be seen by the names attached tothe musical scores, the writer is indebted to a numberof friends : Mr. Krehbiel; Miss Mary L. Bartlett, A muslin gown she doesnt choose,She doesnt ask for broidered hose,She doesnt want prunella shoes,O shes what I want and her Ill have.Aurore Pradc
