On the night of August 26th Jacksons ad-vance, having passed Thoroughfare Gap, struckthe Orange and Alexandria railroad at Ma-nassas Junction, and made it plain to me thatall of the recnforcements and movements ofthe troops promised me had altogether failed.Had Franklin been even at Centreville, orhad Coxs and Sturgiss divisions beenas far west as Bull Run on that day,the movement of Jackson on Ma-nassas Junction would not have beenpracticable.
