(In the latter part of March, 1838, at the suggestionof William Lloyd Garrison, the managers of the NewEngland Anti-Slavery Society voted to request MissCrandall to sit for her likeness. This she did in April,the painter being F. Alexander. A very inadequate-steel engraving was afterwards made from the canvasby W. L. Ormsby, of which the plate is now in thepossession of Mr. F. J. Garrison. The oil-portraitultimately passed into the possession of the late Re\-.Samuel J. May. Concerning its transfer to CornellUniversity, where it now is.
