Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Crane, commanding officer of the 140-foot icebreaking tug Thunder Bay, discussed with Rear Adm. Peter V. Neffenger the challenges of icebreaking on the First Coast Guard in light of its assistance for the Ninth Coast Guard District for Operation Spring Breakout aboard the ship at the Cleveland Moorings here, Friday, April 10, 2009. The Thunder Bay, homeported in Rockland, Maine, facilitated navigation by opening shipping lanes in eastern Lake Erie and portions of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
