| Description |
English: Abandoned Navigation The gate of Eye Kettleby lock on the Wreake navigation. The gate looks to be a guillotine type with the lifting structure removed. The brick pillars on both sides seem to be the same age as the lock and could have got in the way of a traditional lock gate. However, the recesses in the walls beyond the pillars are where I would expect the gates to be when open and are mirrored at the other end of the lock, so I suspect that this is not the original gate. Perhaps research by a canal history society will answer the question. |
