Thepainful tension of melancholia is here blended with a certain stuporous fixity of counte-nance, which accords with the actual course of the symptoms. as frowning wrinkles in the upper zone and a continuous grimacingsmile in the lower zone. All coarse brain disease is manifested chiefly in the lower zoneof the face, and this is especially true of unilateral lesions, and insyphilitic, paretic, and organic dementia there are repeated instancesof this fact.
