The actionof the levator palati mollis is not confined to the velum palati alone, for thebase of the Eustachian tube is raised at every contraction of the muscle, bywhich the orifice of the tube is made smaller, but the resistance in the tubeis lessened owing to the shortening and widening of its aperture.
