The following is the method ofapplying it in polypi of the throat. Fig. I. Plate XLIV. reprefencs apiece ofpliable filver wire pafTed through a doublecanula,and the wire fhould be long enoughwhen doubled as to pafs through the nofeinto the pharynx. Let the wire be takenfrom the canula, and the doubling at theend of it be flowly and gently infinuatedthrough one of the noftrils: As foon asit appears in the throat, the operator, withhis fingers inferted into the mouth, muftopen the double fufSciently for paffing icover the pendulous extremity of the tu-mor ; and having prefled it down to theneck or root of it, the two ends of the li-gature hanging out at the noftril muft beagain paflfed through the canula; which isnow to be inferted into the fame noftril,5iud pulhed
