Title |
A single view of the lower portion of a Roman brooch. |
||
Description |
English: What remains of the brooch is the lower portion of the bow. It is from a Roman brooch, but its type cannot be narrowed down further, probably dating to the first to second century. It is made cast copper alloy. The upper portion of the brooch has a broken edge. This break is probably recent as it is abraded and corroded, whereas the rest of the brooch is not. The bow is decorated with horizontal ridges, which have a slight break in the centre. Only the upper portion of the remaining bow is decorated, the lower portion is plain. The bow tapers to a blunt foot. There is a single horizontal ridge above the foot as decoration. On the reverse, a solid catch plate is intact and complete.The brooch measures 32.36mm long and 4.76mm wide. It weighs 1.9g. |
