Title
A single view of an ornate D-shaped buckle.
Description
English: The buckle frame is made from cast copper alloy. It measures 26.1mm long from side edge to side edge. The width from the apex of the loop to the strap bar is 21.8mm.

In plan the frame is a sub-oval shape. The strap bar is slightly off-set and is sub-square in section. The edge opposite the strap bar is ornately moulded with a row of six ridges forming ribbing which terminates with a bulbous knop. The side edges are sub-triangular in section and curved outwards. Around the strap bar the cast copper alloy pin is curled. The tip of the pin is missing.

The buckle frame and pin have developed a well polished mid green patina. The frame is slightly twisted.

Egan and Pritchard suggest these types of buckles date to the late 12th to late 14th centuries.
