Title
A single view of a Post Medieval strap fitting.
Description
English: The object is a Post Medieval strap fitting, in the form of a hook. Margeson (Margeson, S. 1993 Norwich Households: Medieval and Post Medieval Finds From Norwich Survey, Excavations 1971-78. East Anglian Archaeology 58) illustrates similar examples, Nos. 257 and 258, and dates these to the late 16th to early 17th centuries. Margeson comments these may be related to sword belts. The fitting is made from cast copper alloy.

The body of the strap fitting is an inverted triangle in plan with rounded edges. The upper edge his shaped with a wide ‘V’. The body has two circular rivet holes positioned forming a column. Towards the tip of the triangle there is a collar before the tip extends forming an integral hook. The hook is 3.57mm wide and does not taper. The hook curls towards the reverse forming a ‘U’ shape in profile. The terminal of the hook is rounded. The reverse of the object is slightly concave and has traces of iron corrosion. The surface of the fitting has a mid green patina.

The strap fitting measures 33.25mm long and 13.86mm wide. It weighs 1.3g.
